If you don't get enough cardiovascular exercise because you don't find it enjoyable, you are not alone. In fact, only 25% of Americans meet the weekly recommendation of 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity. (Reference 1)
So how can we change this?
Well, it starts with the mind. Try to approach cardio with a different mentality than usual. Experiment around with new forms of cardio until you find something that you enjoy.
Here are a few ideas to try out:
Play a sport (soccer, basketball, etc)
Any sport where you chase after a ball is an easy way to make cardio fun while socializing & bringing out your competitive side
Exercise outdoors
Nice weather? Hop on a bike or go for a run along a nature trail or park. Outdoor cardio has also been proven to improve Vitamin D levels, reduce stress, and improve your immune system function. (Reference 2)
Walk & Talk
Talk about your day with a friend or loved one while walking. Don't have an in-person walk buddy? No problem! Consider calling a friend or even walking a dog.
Watch a show while on the treadmill
If you struggle with exercising for long segments of time, try watching a movie or show while on the treadmill to help distract yourself. Just make sure to maintain proper form throughout your workout.
