From a nutritional aspect, you have one goal to accomplish: Reach your personalized daily calorie requirement from a balanced diet of healthy, nutritious foods. So you need to eat a certain number of calories each day. But these calories should come from good food rather than “empty calories”. It sounds simple, but this will take a lot of willpower. To effectively hold yourself accountable on the journey to eating healthy, consider incorporating some of these strategies into your routine.

  • Weigh yourself regularly, preferably daily, to track your progress. Small weight fluctuations are totally normal, so pay more attention to the overall trend. Ideally, weigh yourself in the morning on an empty stomach.

  • Take progress pictures to serve as a visual motivator, offering a tangible representation of your transformation over time. Taking pictures in the same location and lighting is key to minimizing external factors that may change the way you appear.

  • Utilize a calorie tracking app to monitor your daily intake and ensure you stay within your nutritional goals. MyFitnessPal is my personal favorite app to track my daily calorie and water intake.

  • Establish a support system, whether it's through friends, family, or online communities, to share your challenges and victories. I have found that starting your journey at the same time as a friend helps to hold each other accountable and add a little friendly competition to your goals.

  • Celebrate small milestones to stay motivated and focused on your overall health goals. Remember to reward your hard work, and not downplay your significant achievements. “Celebrate every win, no matter how small”!
